Arris' new gateway aims to improve Comcast services
Featuring RDK-B and fast broadband speed, the new SurfBoard SVG2482AC Voice Gateway promises to take the Comcast experience to a new level.
If you can't wait for Comcast's next-gen Advanced Gateway, Arris has something that you can get now, the SurfBoard SVG2482AC Voice Gateway, a combo box that includes a fast cable modem and an advanced Wi-Fi router in a single box.
In many ways this is a major upgrade to the SBG6782-AC Surfboard eXtreme that came out a few years ago. The new gateway now supports voice and gigabit broadband speed, and as one of the first gateways on the market, features Reference Design Kit-B (RDK-B) technology.

See all pricesRDK-B is an integrated open-source software stack that provides a common framework for customers' equipment such as set-top boxes, modems/routers/gateways and other devices to communicate with service providers. The technology enables service providers to standardize certain elements of these devices, letting them quickly launch their own new services or customize applications.
For now, thanks to RDK-B, Comcast can actively update the SVG2482AC Gateway's firmware -- a process normally done by the hardware vendor -- to improve its performance or add more services. RDK-B can also be used to deliver more, such as a better support for IoT devices.
